Harold Beach , served with ARP and was killed May 9, 1969.  I was wounded that same day and was the last person to see Harold alive. I, think he had only been in country 3 months.

I am thankful for the slick and cobra pilots, without them ARP probably would have had more men killed or wounded that day. I donít know who the slick pilot was , but he came in under heavy ground fire to get Beach, Ken Pitchler and myself out of there. You hear a lot of stories  about units having a lot of discord among its men.  I didnít think D Troop was that way. Seems like we cared for each    other, from the pilots all the way down to PFCís and we owed that to Major Glenn, Captain Stanley and Young for their leadership. May God bless each and everyone, from those who have gone before us and the ones still left.

Gregory Rugenstein, was my door gunner the night he was killed.  We were dropping flares over LZ St. George while they were getting hit really bad (they lost 8 guys in 1/14 Inf and 1 guy in 2/9 Arty).  One of our flares blew up in Rugenstein's face and killed him.  It fully ignited in the ship and damn near killed all of us.  My crew chief Ed Skaggs saved the ship and our lives, and I got him the Soldier's Medal for that.
